The city council has the legal authority to raise fees and create new taxes without ever asking the citizens of Independence. Brent DeHart will vote against every new fee increase and tax hike that bypasses the public.
Brent's commitment: Vote NO on every fee or tax increase that does not first go to the citizens for approval.
Riverview Park Stays Open.
Our parks belong to the people — not the budget committee.
Riverview Park is more than green space. It is the heart of Independence and critical to our quality of life and essential to our downtown businesses. It should not be used as a political pawn or power battle by the City Manager with the Council and Mayor's assent.
Brent's commitment: Protect Riverview Park from closure, and saving as many parks as we can.
